U15s Diamonds vs Bolton Lads & Girls FC (A) - 20th Nov 2022

A bit rusty but winning ways continue!

Match Report

The girls travelled to Bolton Lads & Girls Club on Sunday for an away fixture on 3G surface.

Having emphatically beaten BLGC in first game of the season, the girls knew today’s game would be a difficult proposition, as the Bolton side had made several new signings.

From the start it was obvious for all to see, BLGC were after a damage limitation job, playing six at the back.  The tactic seemed to work early doors, as The Diamond’s customary fast start wasn’t to be this morning.  A combination of Bolton’s stifling tactics and not having played for two weeks, The Diamonds were showing some signs of rustiness.

A couple of half chances and a Cienna header from a free kick (that she was unlucky not to score), were the highlights of the first fifteen minutes and BLGC started to grow in confidence.

It took nineteen minutes for the girls to get going, when good work by Libby, put Holly in, who ardently finished past the keeper into the top right-hand corner.  1-0

Shortly after, Cienna put a fantastic ball in to Ella, but she couldn’t put the ball away that the cross deserved.  On 25 minutes, Mia’s lobbed ball over the Bolton defence, fell to Holly, who had made a great run, to calmly finish! 2-0

On the 37th-minute mark, a tussle in the box between a few players, resulted in the ball falling to Libby and her scuffed shot couldn’t be held by the keeper and Ella was on hand to tap home.  3-0

Two minutes later, a lovely ball by Lois, found Ella’s run but unfortunately her shot hit the outside of the post.  In fairness, Ella should have gone in with a first half hat-trick of her own.

Half-Time: 3-0

The second half started like the first half, but as the game went on, The Diamond’s created chance after chance with the result being shots narrowly wide of either post or just over the bar!

Midway through the second half, The Diamond’s won the ball on the edge of the Bolton box and Holly – who was one with her shooting boots on this morning, finely finished for her hat-trick.  4-0

With five minutes to go, Holly & Libby combined for the latter and Girl of the Game Libby to finish for a well-deserved goal.  5-0

The game finished 5-0 with BLGC not having a shot on goal throughout the game; Ellie was largely redundant in goal, as Bolton never really threatened the defence.

Full-Time: 5-0

Holly Foden-Brown: 3

Ella Cavanagh

Libby Newton

Girl of the Game – Libby

Libby’s skill really is a joy to watch and is always a handful for any opposition player.  Despite the goals being hard to come by this morning, Libby’s determination, in the face of a few dubious tackles and her work rate, got her just rewards at the end, with a well-deserved goal.  Well done Libby!

Next Game: Sunday 27th November, Home v Haslingden, 10am KO, Kingsway
