U9s Sharks vs Pennine Juniors Whites - 11th Feb 2023
Building in the right direction
Milnrow Sharks U9’s lost 3-0 away to Pennine Whites at Hopton Hall.
Playing up the slope in the first half it was a one sided game. We conceded in the first few minutes giving us an uphill task. We defended well but didn’t press the ball or close them down, allowing them too much time on the ball and as a consequence we got pinned back and struggled to get the ball out of our half. A couple of silly mistake led to a 3-0 half time scoreline.
At half time we spoke about not letting them have the ball, that it was our ball and we should take it back.
They definitely took it on board because second half we were a totally different team. We had the advantage of the slope, battled for every ball, Hamza Hussain was excellent in goal, Finley Eglen won every tackle alongside Elliott Smith at the back and only two fantastic saves by their goalkeeper from Tyler Clough and Albie Rowe kept us from pulling a goal back and getting back into the game.
It’s a slow process but it’s clear to see we are building in the right direction.
Man of the Match was Elliott Smith who read the game well and was disciplined in his position in defence and first half kept us in the game.
