U15s Diamonds vs AFC Bolton (H) - 9th Oct 2022
A year unbeaten & the run continues!
Match Report
Milnrow Juniors Diamonds 12 v 1 AFC Bolton
The girls went into Sunday’s fixture at home to AFC Bolton, on the back of a twenty-one-game unbeaten run in the league and cup - stretching back twelve months to the 3rd of October last year, when last suffering defeat!
Back to a full squad with Maisie & Sadie absent from last week’s game, it took the girls just three minutes to get the first goal, when Libby won the ball deep into the Bolton half, she in turn fed Lois, who took a touch and put Cienna in to finish in the top right hard corner (1-0).
Four minutes later, Libby again won the ball back and fed Cienna to finish for her second and Diamond’s second (2-0).
Cienna could have had her hattrick shortly afterwards when she picked up the ball on the edge of the box, but the shot narrowly missed.
On fourteen, Keeva won the ball superbly just inside the Diamond’s half and played in Lexie, who took on her marker and put Libby through, but the Bolton keeper made a fine save from Lois. But on seventeen, there was more superb work by Libby on the edge of the box tussling with two Bolton defenders, winning the ball and finishing to the right-hand side of the goal (3-0).
17-minute substitutions: Maisie for Keeva, Holly for Libby
21-minute substitutions: Live for Ava, Sadie for Mia
Diamonds could have had a fourth after fantastic work by Ella, who put a brilliant ball through to Holly, leaving her one-on-one with the keeper, who yet again made a great save.
On twenty-four, there was some great work and ball play by Liv, who put Lois in to hammer home (4-0). Then a minute later came a strong run by Holly, which saw her ghost past the Bolton defence and calmy finish for the Diamonds fifth (5-0).
The Diamonds were flowing now with Lois narrowly missing and then Lois again battled with a Bolton defender who in trying to clear, put the ball in her own net for 6-0.
30-minute substitutions: Keeva for Megan, Ava for Lois
Shortly after coming back on, splendid work by Ava resulted in a brilliant effort from range being tipped onto the bar by the Bolton keeper and went safe for a corner.
On thirty-seven, Holly again won the ball on the edge of the box and finished for 7-0.
Half-Time: 7-0
At half-time there was lots of changes and changing positions for the Diamonds, notably Megan moving upfront. At the start of the second half with all the changes, the Diamonds performance became a little disjointed and twelve minutes into the half, the girls conceded their first goal of the season, and it wasn’t a surprise, as AFC Bolton had produced their best spell of football in the game and being the better side in the second half up to now. After some sloppy play by the Diamonds, the ball fell to the Bolton striker who finished well (7-1).
Three minutes later, Bolton were awarded a clear penalty when the same goal scorer was brought down in the box by Ellie, but from the resulting spot kick, put the ball over the bar.
The spell of Bolton possession seemed to shake Milnrow back into action and on fifty-seven minutes, Holly's cross was coolly put away by Libby (8-1).
A minute later, the same combination made it 9-1 to the Diamond’s when Holly’s fine cross was met by Lois, who couldn’t get it under control to get a shot in, but Libby managed to pick the ball up to finish.
Holly then got on the scoresheet again, for her hat-trick, after brilliant work by Mia who was again flawless in centre midfield, to make to 10-1.
With twelve minutes remaining and some strong work by Megan, put Libby in who finished superbly for her fourth of the game and her twelfth in three games (who needs Haaland)! (11-1)
Five minutes later, Ella got her reward for an impressive performance, when the keeper failed to hold a cross, and Ella was there to tidy up and make it 12-1.
In the dying embers of the game, Milnrow were awarded a penalty when Libby was upended in the box. Up stepped Cienna, but the keeper (who was Bolton’s Girl of the Game) saved, in what would have been a well-deserved hat-trick for Cienna.

Cienna Williams -
Another superb game from all the girls, but this week went to Cienna. Cienna’s pace is always a problem for opposition defender’s and also her work rate, always pressing and forcing defenders into mistakes. Well done Cienna.
Note:
Cienna pictured with our matchday sponsor. A big thank you to Rodger Brierley who sponsored Sunday’s game. Rodge has sponsored at least one Diamond’s game a season since our inception and parents and girls alike, massively appreciate it.
Some truly kind words were said to the girls by Rodger after the game; about him witnessing the progression that the team have gone on over those years – thank you Rodger!
